Get ready for a nostalgia trip, crochet style! This pattern lets you whip up your very own big (a solid 18 inches, not counting that fabulous tail) and downright adorable Hobbes-inspired tiger. If you grew up with Calvin and Hobbes, you already know—this guy is the ultimate childhood throwback. Designed by Fat Lady Crochet, this pattern is here to bring the charm and the cozy.
Before you add to cart, let’s get one thing straight: This is a crochet pattern—not the finished tiger. You gotta make him yourself, my friend!
Skill Level: Intermediate
This pattern is written in US terms and is best suited for crocheters who can handle the basics with confidence and don’t break out in hives at the thought of sewing. Don’t worry, I’ve packed it with photos to help you along the way.
Materials:
- Orange Yarn: ~600g, size 3 (DK)
- Black & White Yarn: ~300g, size 3 (DK)
- Recommended Yarn: Hobbii 100% recycled cotton
- Hooks: 5.00mm (H) & 4.00mm (G) or whatever gets you the right gauge
- Tapestry needle, fiber fill, pins, stitch marker—the usual suspects
Notes:
- The body and head? One piece, baby! Worked from the bottom up with two strands of yarn and the bigger hook.
- Continuous rounds, no joining—unless I tell you otherwise. Use that stitch marker!
- Limbs, tail, tummy, muzzle? All separate. Work ’em up, then sew ’em on.
- Eyes, ears, and stripes? One strand, smaller hook. Give this guy his personality!
- Once finished, he’s about 18 inches tall (before you add his tail).
The Fine Print:
You’re totally allowed (and encouraged!) to sell your finished tigers—just give credit where it’s due: @fat.lady.crochet on Instagram and Fat Lady Crochet on Facebook.
What you CAN’T do: Sell, share, or publish this pattern. Not in print, not online, not in a secret underground crochet ring. Just don’t.
This is an instant PDF download, NOT a finished plushie. No refunds, no exchanges—once you buy it, it’s yours forever. If tech gremlins mess with your download, message me and I’ll help sort it out.
Thanks for supporting this small, Canadian, woman-owned business! Now go forth and crochet a childhood icon! 🧶🐯
