This EASY crochet pattern is written in US terms and is perfect for those who have a solid grasp of basic stitches and don’t mind a bit of sewing. Plenty of photos are included to help you along the way.
Materials
125 grams size 4 worsted weight yarn in grey
Scrap amount size 4 worsted weight yarn in black, cream
We used Bernat Handicrafter 100% cotton
Crochet hook size G/4.00 mm (or size needed to obtain gauge)
Tapestry needle
Stitch marker
Fiberfill
2 x 1/4-inch black buttons (ONLY if the hippo is intended for humans over 3 years old)
Pattern Notes
Hippo’s legs, body, and head are worked in one piece from the bottom up—because less sewing is always a win.
Worked in continuous rounds—so don’t forget your stitch marker.
Those squishy buns? They magically appear, but you’ll need to stuff and shape them for maximum cuteness.
Buttons for eyes? ONLY if this isn’t going to a little one.
